RP Blu Boys, modern pentathlete Comaling provide golds in another lean day for PH

The RP Blu Boys reclaimed their crown in the men’s softball event after blanking Singapore, 3-0, while Michael Ver Comaling defended his gold medal in the run-swim-shoot event of the modern pentathlon.
The Blu Boys struck first in the opening before adding two more runs to seal the deal at the Queen Sirikit Stadium. Pitcher Jehanz Maristela Coro anchored the Blu boys and struck out 17 batters from the opposing team.
The Blu Boys claimed the precious mint despite only finishing second in the preliminaries.
Comaling, on the other hand, took 14 minutes and 10.17 seconds to rule the event he first won back in 2019.
The two gold medals were the only other victories the Filipinos got following Alex Eala’s historic win in the women’s singles tennis.
The Nationals had plenty of chances though with fencing teams senior women’s saber, senior men’s foil and senior women’s epee all finishing with bronze medals.
The wrestling team claimed two silvers courtesy of Aliyah Rose Gavalez and Arian Carpio and a bronze from Rea Cervantes.
The Philippine ice hockey team, likewise, bagged the bronze with a 5-3 victory over Singapore.
The men’s football team, meanwhile, failed to land a podium after a 2-1 loss to Malaysia while the Filipina5 also settled for fourth with a 5-0 defeat to Thailand.
Alas Pilipinas was also relegated to a bronze medal match against Vietnam following a 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 loss to host Thailand.
Heading into the last two days of competition, Team Philippines has 41 golds, 59 silvers and 126 bronzes, good for the sixth spot. It still has the chance at overtaking Malaysia (46 golds) and even Singapore (48 golds) with four possible golds in boxing, two from basketball, and one from softball.
