CABRAL
Former Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral allegedly fell to her death on the Bued River along Kennon Road in Tuba town, Benguet province on Thursday, Dec. 18.
Cabral, who was linked to the flood control project scandal, was last seen alive on Thursday afternoon by her driver.
She and her driver were on their way to La Union when she asked her driver to stop in Maramal, Camp 5.
The area was reportedly where a controversial rock slide project is located and visited by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. a few months ago.
She asked to be left in the area. Her driver returned later but she was nowhere to be found. He returned to Baguio but she was not there.
He reported her missing to the Baguio City police who located her lying and unconscious near the Bued River, 20 to 30 meters below the highway.
Authorities confirmed the death of Cabral at past midnight Friday, Dec. 19.
Her remains were taken to a funeral parlor.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation.
