Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon is asking authorities to dig deeper into the recent visit of the two Bondi Beach shooters to the Philippines.
Ridon also said that father-and-son Sajid Akram, 50 and Naveed Akram, 24 ought to be blacklisted by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
"Sa pinakamaagang panahon, dapat mailagay sa immigration blacklist ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang mga personalidad na sangkot sa pamamaril sa Bondi Beach, Australia," the House Committee on Public Accounts chairman said.
(At the earliest possible time, the personalities involved in the shooting at Bondi Beach, Australia should be placed on the immigration blacklist of the BI.)
"Marapat ding magsiyasat ang ating mga law enforcement agencies sa mga pinuntahang mga lugar at kinitang mga tao ng mga personalidad na ito upang malaman kung ang kanilang pagbisita sa bansa ay para sa turismo lamang o nakadikit sa isang regional or international terror network at operations," Ridon noted.
(Our law enforcement agencies should also investigate the places visited and the people met by these personalities to determine whether their visit to the country was solely for tourism or connected to a regional or international terror network and operations.)
Earlier, the BI confirmed that the suspects had previously entered the Philippines last month.
The agency said the suspects arrived in the country together on Nov. 1 from Sydney, Australia. Both reported Davao as their final destination.
The duo left the country on Nov. 28 on a connecting flight from Davao to Manila, with Sydney as the final destination, the BI added.
The BI did not disclose the purpose of the suspects’ visit or whether they were under monitoring at the time.
At least 15 people were killed during the Dec. 14 attack on Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration.
