RGEC starts exporting power from Limbauan solar phase 2

A month after completing energization, Yuchengco-led Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC) has begun supplying additional renewable energy (RE) capacity to the Luzon grid from its solar facility in Isabela province.
In a statement on Thursday, Dec. 18, RGEC said its 40-megawatt direct current (MWdc) Limbauan solar project in San Pablo town has started exporting electricity to the grid following the completion of the project’s second phase.
Phase two of Limbauan solar project has a capacity of 33.831 MWdc.
According to RGEC, the export followed its receipt of approval from National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to connect the facility to the grid on Dec. 17.
Maria Victoria Olivar, vice president of PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC), also a Yuchengco-led company, welcomed the start of the power generator’s production.
“We are pleased to start exporting power from our Limbauan solar phase two facility, which is a Green Energy Auction (GEA)-2 qualified project,” she said.
GEA-2 is a program initiated by the Department of Energy (DOE) to auction off ground-mounted, floating, and rooftop solar technologies, as well as onshore wind, biomass, and waste-to-energy resources. It has awarded 3,440 MW of capacity, including Limbauan solar project.
“This milestone testifies to the strong cooperation forged among PGEC, the DOE, NGCP, IEMOP [Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines], and the San Pablo and Isabela local governments, whose support was crucial to the project’s timely completion,” Olivar added.
RGEC is a joint venture between PGEC and Tokyo-based Taisei Corp. The project’s supply delivery follows the earlier commercial operations of the 27-MWdc Dagohoy solar facility in Bohol and 19.6-MWdc San Jose solar plant in Nueva Ecija earlier this year.
The company is also expected to switch on the 6.005-MWdc Limbauan phase one and 25-MWdc Bugallon solar facility in Pangasinan.
According to Olivar, these projects “were completed last November and are only awaiting NGCP clearance for energization to add more power to the Luzon grid.”
The PGEC chief said the company expects its total RE capacity to reach 263 MW.
PetroGreen is the RE unit of PetroEnergy Resources Corp., which is also engaged in upstream oil exploration.
