Quezon town urges repair of deep potholes in major intersection
THIS major intersection in Gumaca, Quezon is dotted with potholes like the Moon and people have appealed for its immediate repair.
GUMACA, Quezon – This town has urged the immediate repair of an intersection here pockmarked with potholes that has been compared to craters in the Moon.
Gumaca Mayor Webster Letargo has repeatedly appealed to the Quezon 4th Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways to immediately repair the road which is under their jurisdiction.
Letargo added that the municipal government is often blamed for the dilapidated road even though it is a national highway under the responsibility of the DPWH.
He urged the Quezon 4th DEO to immediately repair the road as Christmas is fast approaching and an influx of motorists is expected.
Vehicles slowly navigating potholes have caught the attention of social media content creators, often posting them in their Facebook pages, resulting in the amusement of netizens who have asked the government to repair the road.
Buses and trucks have experienced mechanical trouble while navigating the potholes, prompting Letargo to answer questions and comments on his Facebook page as the LGU has become the target of various opinions.
Letargo cited that the national road is under the responsibility of the DPWH, which, under Executive Order No. 292 (Administrative Code of 1987), is the "principal branch of the Government for engineering and construction."
As such, he said, the DPWH handles the planning, design, and maintenance of the national highway system.
The road is considered a gateway to Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol region, Visayas, and Mindanao.
There is an alternative route, the Gumaca Bypass Road, but vehicles are cool from using it due to its allegedly steep and high design that is not suitable for large and loaded vehicles.
