President Marcos has suspended work in all government offices on Dec. 29 and Jan. 2 to allow government employees to travel to and from different regions in the country.
Marcos declared the suspension of work through Memorandum Circular No. 111 signed on Thursday, Dec. 18.
"In order to provide government employees full opportunity to celebrate New Year's Day activities and to allow them to travel to and from different regions in the country, work in all government offices is hereby suspended on 29 December 2025 (Monday) and 2 January 2026 (Friday)," the memorandum read.
The suspension of government work on these dates extends the Christmas holiday among government employees, as Dec. 29 and Jan. 2 come before and after three-day regular holidays —Rizal Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.
Agencies responsible for basic, vital, and health services, and preparedness and response duties, however, must remain operational.
Meanwhile, the suspension of work in private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
