The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday, December 18, said it has launched an investigation into an alleged case of child abuse involving a public school teacher in Tondo, Manila, reaffirming its strict zero-tolerance policy against violence or abuse toward learners.
In a statement released by DepEd Chief Media Relations Officer Dennis E. Legaspi, the agency said the Schools Division Office of Manila has received a formal complaint from a parent regarding the alleged incident.
The case has also reached the DepEd Central Office through the Learner Rights and Protection Division (LRPD) after the complaint was filed via the Learners TeleSafe Contact Center Helpline (LTCCH).
Under the leadership of DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, the agency said it enforces a “clear zero-tolerance policy” against any form of violence or abuse against learners.
“Any act that harms a child has no place in our schools, and those found accountable will face appropriate administrative and legal consequences in accordance with the law and due process,” DepEd said.
DepEd confirmed that the concerned field office has been directed to take immediate steps to ensure the learner’s safety and well-being.
These measures include class adjustments, the provision of psychosocial support, and close monitoring of the child involved.
DepEd added that a parallel investigation is underway to address the allegation of molestation, with the primary objective of protecting and assisting all learners concerned. Officials emphasized that the inquiry will be conducted swiftly and fairly.
“DepEd ensures that the ongoing investigation is being handled swiftly and fairly,” the agency said. “A simultaneous inquiry regarding the alleged molestation is being conducted with the end view that all learners involved are protected and assisted,” it added.
Meanwhile, DepEd reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the safety, dignity, and rights of every learner, underscoring that child protection remains a top priority across all public schools nationwide.
