BANGKOK — Melvin Sacay and Dhenver John Castillo shone for Team Philippines as they delivered gold medals in modern pentathlon and windsurfing to raise the Day 8 golden harvest to eight in the 33rd Southeast Games on Wednesday, Dec. 17 here.
Sacay bagged the precious mint after pulling away in the race that consisted of running and shooting with a 10:41.55 time on the Jomtien Beach in Pattaya.
He finished ahead of Indonesia’s Fadhil Aulia Mufti, who clocked 11:14.21 for the silver, and Graha Rizky Taruna, who finished with a time of 11:24.81.
Meanwhile, Castillo came through with the gold mint in the windsurfing men’s U19 IQ foil class.
He finished with 30 points through 16 races to best Thailand’s Lianglam Passapong who finished with 33 points, and Wong John Tze Xiang with 35 points.
In windsurfing competitions, winning is determined by accumulating the lowest total score across a series of races.
