Paolo Duterte reduces travel itinerary to just Netherlands, Australia; still waiting on House clearance

Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo Duterte has ditched his plan of traveling to 17 country-territories in a period of two months beginning this December.
Executive Director Jose Marmoi Salonga of the Office of the Secretary General in the House of Representatives confirmed on Wednesday, Dec. 17 that their office has received a revised travel clearance request from Rep. Duterte, with a drastically reduced itinerary.
"The House of Representatives confirms receipt of the request for travel clearance from Representative Duterte. The initial request dated December 1, 2025 sought approval for travel from Dec. 15, 2025, to Feb. 20, 2026, covering 17 foreign destinations," Salonga said in a statement.
In response, Salonga said the House requested from the Mindanaoan additional details and a revised submission to facilitate proper evaluation, given the overlap with official session days.
"He (Rep. Duterte) then submitted a revised request dated Dec. 15, 2025, seeking clearance for travel from Jan. 3 to Jan. 30, 2026, to the Netherlands and Australia," Salonga sad.
"The stated purpose includes visiting former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, currently detained in The Hague, and visiting the Representative’s daughter studying in Australia.
"The Representative also indicated that all expenses will be covered using personal funds," added the House official.
"The revised request is currently under evaluation in accordance with House rules and administrative procedures, considering institutional requirements and official session schedules," Salonga further said.
Rep. Duterte's initial travel clearance request covered the following country-territories in a span of two months: Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, United States, Australia, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, and Singapore.
