BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) recently distributed new vehicles, firearms, and equipment to police units across the region to enhance operational readiness and response capability.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, led the blessing and turnover of the mobility assets during a ceremony at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headquarters in Barangay Estefania in this highly-urbanized city on Monday, Dec. 15.
Equipment provided by the Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City were 24 personnel carrier 4x4 vehicles, eight light transport vehicles, two patrol motorcycles, 220 combat helmets, and seven Mertsav light machine guns.
Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong, PRO-NIR spokesperson, said these aim to improve police mobility, strengthen tactical response, and support internal security operations throughout the region.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, headed by Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao, received 13 personnel carrier 4x4 vehicles, six light transport vehicles, one patrol motorcycle, and two light machine guns.
The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office under Police Col. Criscente Tiguelo was given five personnel carrier 4x4 vehicles, two light transport vehicles, one patrol motorcycle, three light machine guns, and 104 combat helmets.
The Siquijor Provincial Police Office, led by Police Col. Emelie Santos, received six personnel carrier 4x4 vehicles and six combat helmets while the Bacolod City Police Office headed by Police Col. Joeresty Coronica was allotted 40 combat helmets.
The Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB)-NIR received two light machine guns and 30 combat helmets.
Ibay described the turnover as a significant step in strengthening the operational capability of the newly established PRO-NIR, underscoring the organization’s commitment to ensuring that police personnel are properly equipped and prepared to perform their duties.
He said the additional resources will help police units carry out daily law enforcement tasks, respond more effectively to emergencies and disasters, and conduct internal security operations with greater efficiency and professionalism.
Ibay said that increased capability carries greater responsibility, reminding recipients that proper use, maintenance, and accountability of these assets are essential and that strict adherence to policies on firearms and equipment remains mandatory.
