A one-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted by a fellow street dweller in Quezon City has been found after six days.
The child, identified as Kiana Jane, was located on Tuesday night, Dec. 17, in Navotas City under the care of concerned residents who temporarily looked after her after she was left in the area.
Authorities later confirmed her identity and facilitated her return to her family.
The suspect, a 20-year-old woman, had earlier been arrested by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and placed in the Novaliches Police Station.
She is facing charges for violating the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, in relation to Article 270 of the Revised Penal Code, which covers kidnapping and failure to return a minor.
Investigators found that the suspect had been staying with the victim’s family for about two weeks before the incident.
She later admitted to authorities that she brought the child to Caloocan City and used her for begging before eventually abandoning her in the Sangandaan area.
Police said the child was left asleep with a woman near a convenience store, after the suspect claimed she would return shortly.
When the suspect failed to come back, concerned individuals reported the matter to barangay officials. The child was placed under protective care.
Residents who looked after the toddler said they ensured she was fed, clothed, and given a safe place to rest while authorities were contacted.
Police reminded the public, especially parents and guardians, to remain vigilant and avoid entrusting children to strangers to prevent similar incidents.
