TACLOBAN CITY – Mayor Alfred Romualdez announced that vehicles weighing no more than 30 tons will be allowed to cross the San Juanico Bridge from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily starting Wednesday, Dec. 17.
Romualdez said that vehicles will be weighed strictly before being allowed to pass the bridge.
“Habang ipinatutupad ito, susundin ang one-way traffic scheme, na may maximum speed limit na 30 kph at 40-meter distance sa pagitan ng bawat sasakyan,” he said.
(A one-way traffic scheme with a maximum speed limit of 30 kph and 40-meter distance between vehicles will be implemented)
Romualdez said that DPWH Region 8 and Tomeco will manage traffic to ensure orderly and safe passage.
The city government proposed last week to allow big trucks weighing 30 tons to pass on one lane when traffic permits during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s visit.
“Iyong magkabilang LGU, sila ang magtatrabaho sa traffic para tiyakin na one-way lang ang takbo—isasara ‘yung isang side, kagaya kapag tinatrabaho ‘yung kalsada,” the President said.
(The LGUs on both sides will work together to maintain one-way traffic)
“We are hoping to return the bridge’s function to allow 33 tons in both directions, hopefully by the middle of next year, or the third quarter of next year, it will be fully functional,” he added.
