Filipino pug Charly Suarez was left hanging in the air as his supposed rematch against World Boxing Organization super featherweight titlist Emanuel Navarrete was called off after the Mexican opted to face IBF king Eduardo Nuñez for a unification bout in February next year.
According to his camp, Suarez should be the one arranging a fight against Navarrete after the WBO ordered an "immediate rematch" following the "no contest" ruling of the California State Athletic Association for their May bout last June.
Suarez's manager Ricard Navalta filed a formal complaint to the boxing body last Dec. 8, noting that both sides must abide by the decision.
“They should honor that Charly is the No. 1 contender for the belt,” said Navalta during a press conference at Manila Yacht Club in Malate Tuesday, Dec. 16. “We have discussions with Top Rank, they understand that Charly is the mandatory challenger… as far as those conversations go, those are under review by WBO.”
Navalta also made it clear that Suarez deserves to top the bill of a major fightcard.
“Ako kasi ginagampanan ko lang ‘yong tungkulin ko. ‘yong training and preparation, and ipagkaloob naman samin na lumaban kami sa world championship kasi ‘yon naman naman talaga ‘yong aim namin,” said Suarez.
“Kung magpabaya ako as a fighter, makuha ko na hindi maibigay, baka pag nagpabaya ako baka masayang ko ‘yong pagkakataon,” he added. “Main goal talaga is ‘yong title fight, kasi nandito na kami eh, world championship talaga ang habol namin.”
“Navarrete, I’m waiting for you, let’s do this,” said the eager Suarez.
