Telecommunications giant Globe Telecom Inc. and leading e-wallet GCash are taking a major step toward safer digital transactions with the rollout of a new technology that secures a user’s identity without requiring one-time passwords (OTPs) or manual input.
Globe said it has completed the first phase of a proof of concept for the eventual adoption of silent network authentication (SNA) across the company’s network.
The SNA is a next-generation verification scheme that directly checks whether the mobile number provided matches the active SIM card in the current data session.
This provides real-time confirmation of a user’s identity without making it vulnerable to phishing and SIM-based fraud.
Fraudsters often trick users into revealing their OTPs by sending messages that appear authentic in order to access their accounts.
For GCash users, this additional layer of protection ensures stronger security and a more worry-free experience every time they log in or make a transaction.
KD Dizon, vice president and head of Globe Business, said adopting the SNA in the digital wallet reflects the urgent need for security and accessibility to go hand in hand, especially in the fintech sector.
“By working with GCash, we’re showing how network-level innovation can directly improve safety and convenience for millions of Filipinos who rely on digital platforms every day,” said Dizon.
The SNA is a central component of Globe’s G Verify, the anti-fraud portfolio that combines network-level solutions and application programming interfaces (APIs) to protect customers and businesses from cyber threats.
The technology aligns with global benchmarks set by mobile communications group GSMA and the open‑source global initiative CAMARA.
It also supports the advocacy of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for stronger digital security across the financial sector.
“By solidifying the foundation of trust, this initiative is set to revolutionize access to essential digital services for all Filipinos, fostering a more inclusive financial landscape,” said Globe.
“This empowers partners like GCash to create safer, more intuitive digital experiences, driving a future where every Filipino can confidently participate in the digital economy,” it added.
