Six teams, bannered by leaders Rain or Shine and San Miguel, look to complete their respective missions in a rare triple-header in separate locations of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup Wednesday, Dec. 17.
Two venues will be hosting the triple-header with the Elasto Painters (8-2) aiming to preserve the No. 1 spot and sweep their two-game assignment at Khalifa Sports City Stadium where they now face the playoff hopeful Barangay Ginebra Kings (5-4) at 11:55 p.m. (Philippine time).
Meanwhile, two games are set at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila where the Beermen (7-2) seek to secure the quarters bonus when they tangle with the Terrafirma Dyip (1-9) at 5:15 p.m, while the Converge FiberXers (6-4) and the NLEX Road Warriors (6-4) hope to sneak into the Top Four race in the 7:30 p.m duel.
So far, Rain or Shine is the only squad to clinch a playoff incentive
Jhonard Clarito, Gian Mamuyac, and Caelan Tiongson spearhead the Yeng Guiao-mentored crew, while RJ Abarrientos, Japeth Aguilar, Scottie Thompson, and Troy Rosario lead Ginebra’s attack.
"Well, it's unfamiliar territory para samin 'to kasi dati lagi kaming nasa dehado eh. I think we worked hard for this, the job is not done, hindi naman 'yong goal namin," said Mamuyac.
"Our goal is to get into the finals and to win the championship, so malayo pero it's not bad to recognize the hard work that his group has put in," he added.
A loss, however, for the Gin Kings would give the Titan Ultra Giant Risers (4-6) an opportunity to steal the No. 8 spot, while the E-Painters would further strengthen their grip on the No. 1 spot if they prevail.
In the other game, either a victory from Converge and NLEX would break the current four-way logjam with Magnolia and Meralco in the standings.
