More than 100 participants gathered for this year’s Christmas Clash, the annual year-end tournament organized by the UP Badminton Association in Diliman (UP BadAss). The event, traditionally held every December, has long been a space for camaraderie and friendly competition among the UP BadAss community. This year, the organization strengthened its commitment to service by dedicating the event to a cause that extends beyond the court.
All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Pamalakaya-Navotas, a national federation of small fisherfolk organizations in the Philippines. It represents the interests of small-scale fishers, advocates for their rights and welfare, and campaigns against what it views as exploitative and destructive practices in the fisheries sector.
Ahead of the matches, players were randomly paired to form six categories of non-gendered doubles, encouraging inclusivity and a dynamic competitive atmosphere. The winners for this year’s Christmas Clash were:
Level A: Angelo Patiluna and Neo Piolo Manansala
Level B: Jake Avila and Joseph Paolo Alzate
Level C: Dane Fredrick Parian and Steve Wilson Alcaraz Level CD: Gian Torres and Conrado Luiz Bencio
Level D: Yanni Jose Ella and Jarred Henrich Natividad Level E: Kyrene Riego and Loredolyn Suñiga
The event’s tagline, “Serving Hope, One Match at a Time,” reflects the heart of the event using sport as a means to uplift communities and share the spirit of generosity. The event was led by the organization’s President, Jillian Santos and co-managed by the members.
