A tip received through Facebook resulted in the rescue of a 26-year old Chinese in what police said was a case of kidnapping-for-ransom during an operation in Parañaque City on Saturday, police said.
Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., acting chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), lauded the operating policemen, saying the successful operation manifested the policy reforms in the organization in terms of quick police response.
“The prompt response of the local police to the tip highlights the importance of public cooperation in ensuring community safety and the PNP’s commitment to swift and efficient law enforcement,” said Nartatez.
He said the rescue followed a report received through the PNP Hotline Facebook Page, prompting an immediate police response to Room A1911, Marina Seaview Residence.
Police Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the victim was found with five foreign suspects, including a woman.
Aberin said the victim had been detained since Dec. 9, with suspects demanding ₱1 million for his release.
The victim disclosed that ₱500,000 had already been handed over.
Aberin said the all suspects are now under police custody for proper investigation.
“This incident highlights how crucial prompt information is in preventing crimes from escalating. Once the report reached our units, our officers acted immediately, verified the situation on the ground, and ensured the safe recovery of the victim,” said Aberin.
Nartatez, on the other hand, said they will continue the investigation to determine any links to larger criminal activities, including possible POGO-related operations or scam hubs.
Police said coordination with the Chinese Embassy is ongoing to update them on the welfare of the rescued victim and the progress of the investigation.
Police also called on the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and continue supporting law enforcement efforts.
