Members of the Health Alliance for Democracy (HEAD) staged a protest in front of the Department of Health (DOH) central office in Manila on Monday, Dec. 15, calling for the resignation of DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa over what the group described as failures in protecting people’s right to health.
In a statement, the group said Herbosa has “failed in his mandate to protect people’s health.”
HEAD said that under Herbosa’s leadership, “the country’s health crisis has deepened and worsened.”
“He has failed in his mandate to protect people’s health,” the alliance said.
The group stressed that its protest was rooted in concerns over healthcare access and public health delivery.
“This neglect is a direct assault on the health rights of the most vulnerable Filipinos,” the group said.
HEAD also urged the government to prioritize health services and uphold the public’s right to healthcare, calling for accountability in health sector leadership.
As of posting, the health department has yet to issue an official response to the rally and the group’s call.
