Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon rejected speculation about a possible run in the 2028 elections, saying he will focus on fulfilling his duties.
Dizon, who has served nearly 30 years in government, said he plans to return to the private sector after his term but remains open to public service if needed.
He assumed the DPWH post following the resignation of former Secretary Manuel Bonoan amid alleged multi-billion-peso flood control project anomalies.
Dizon promised to seek courtesy resignations from all agency officials, stressing that “an agency cannot probe itself.”
When asked again about seeking elective office, Dizon remained firm and reiterated his stance.
“Running for public office, it’s not me, I’m not a politician. I’ll just do my job,” he said.
He emphasized that his priority is performing his duties rather than seeking praise or avoiding criticism.
Dizon’s leadership has drawn public attention, with netizens noting the pressures of managing the agency’s flood control controversies.
He also faced criticism from Senator Imee Marcos over his request to restore a portion of the DPWH budget that had been cut, highlighting the challenges of balancing agency reforms and budgetary concerns.
