Cops seize P7M worth of abandoned illegal drugs in Makati
The Southern Police District (SPD) confiscated a total of P7.13 million worth of illegal drugs, including ecstacy tablets, cocaine, and marijuana products, found inside two eco-bags that had been abandoned on Apartment Ridge Street in Barangay Urdaneta, Makati City, on Sunday, Dec. 14.
The initial investigation showed that a concerned citizen reported the unattended bags to the police at around 12:05 p.m.
Responding police officers recovered the two bags, which contained 3,665 ecstasy tablets, 437 grams of marijuana kush, 18 marijuana oil vape cartridges, and 42 grams of cocaine.
"An on-site inventory of the recovered items was conducted at the place of discovery in the presence of a barangay kagawad of Barangay Urdaneta, Makati City, to ensure transparency and strict adherence to standard operating procedures," the SPD said.
The seized ecstasy tablets were valued at P6,230,500, while the marijuana oil vape cartridges were estimated at P23,400.
Meanwhile, the seized marijuana kush had an estimated value of P655,000, and the cocaine was valued at P222,600.
The recovered pieces of drug evidence were turned over to the SPD Forensic Unit for examination while a police investigation is still being conducted to determine the source of the drugs.
In a statement, SPD Director Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo emphasized the importance of public vigilance and rapid police response in preventing illegal drugs from reaching communities.
“This recovery demonstrates how alert citizens and responsive police units can stop large volumes of illegal drugs from entering our streets. Every report matters. We urge the public to continue working with us and immediately report any suspicious items or activities in their communities,” Arceo said.
