The camp of AGAP Party-list Rep. Nicanor Briones on Monday, Dec. 15, denied any links with contractor-couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya as it attended a hearing of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) in executive session.
Briones personally faced the hearing with his counsel, lawyer Winston Ginez. Ginez said the proceedings were requested by his client "in order to protect the confidential and highly-sensitive information" that he divulged to the Commission.
"Ito ay nature naman ng kanilang investigation process, kaya gusto niya lng naman makatulong kaya minabuti po nyang sa executive session ilahad lahat (Well, that's the nature of their investigation process. He just wanted to offer help, so he requested for an executive session to tell everything)," Ginez said when asked why the lawmaker requested a closed-door session.
Briones denied any links to the controversial Discayas, who tagged him in the anomalous flood control projects, according to his counsel. He also did not have any flood control project, he added.
The lawmaker submitted himself to the commission voluntarily to take the opportunity "to clear his name and deny all the unfair and unfounded accusations against him".
"Nasabi naman po niya ang lahat. Siya ay walang kinalaman at wala siyang alam sa lahat ng mga naging alegasyon sa kanya (He said everything he wanted to say. He neither had any involvement nor any knowledge regarding the allegations against him)," Ginez said.
