The Bureau of Fire Protection's (BFP) held a wreath laying ceremony at the Manila North Cemetery as part of its 52nd Fire Service Recognition Day in honor of the three firefighters who perished in line of duty during the December 14, 1973 Rockwell Plant fire incident in Makati City.
Held at the cemetery’s Manila Fireman’s Plot, the BFP said that event paid tribute to the ultimate sacrifice of the three brave firefighters who died in the incident.
"It is a solemn reminder of the courage, selflessness and unwavering commitment of firefighters in the service of the nation," the BFP said.
The BFP noted that the heroism of the three firefighters inspired then President Ferdinand E. Marcos in issuing Proclamation No. 751, designating December 14 as Fire Service Recognition Day, which is a lasting tribute to the courage and dedication of Filipino firefighters.
“This solemn tradition honors the fallen firefighters who selflessly offered their lives in the line of duty. Their sacrifice stands as a lasting testament to courage, service, and unwavering dedication,’’ the BFP pointed out.
Further, the BFP emphasized that it draws inspiration from their heroism and will “continue to give honor and recognition to the diligence of our firefighters, whose bravery knows no bounds and whose legacy lives on in every life they protect.’’
BFP Deputy Director Operations Senior Supt. Paul Pili, BFP-National Capital Region Assistant Regional Director for Administration Senior Supt. Bonifacio Carta and Manila Fire District Command Group Marshal Senior Supt. Eddie Tanawan led other officials in the wreath-laying ceremony.
