The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Dec. 14, said it is not monitoring any low-pressure area (LPA) inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), and that the likelihood of a tropical cyclone forming in the coming days remains low.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said there are currently no developing weather disturbances that could intensify into a storm.
“Wala tayong mino-monitor ngayon na low-pressure area sa loob at labas ng Philippine Area of Responsibility (We are not monitoring any low-pressure area at present inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility),” he said.
“Maliit pa sa posibilidad na magkaroon tayo ng bagyo sa mga susunod na araw (The possibility of having a storm in the coming days remains low),” he added.
Despite the absence of a weather disturbance, Badrina said three weather systems are currently affecting different parts of the country: the northeast monsoon or “amihan” over northern Luzon, the shear line affecting portions of central and southern Luzon, and the easterlies influencing a large part of the country.
He noted that rainfall is likely over parts of Luzon due to the shear line.
“Malaki ang posibilidad ng mga pag-ulan parktikular na sa may bahagi ng Aurora’t Quezon dulot ng shear line (There is a high likelihood of rains, particularly over Aurora and Quezon, due to the shear line,” he said.
The weather specialist said cloud clusters over eastern Mindanao are also expected to bring rains.
“Habang makikita niyo po itong mga kaulapan sa may silangang bahagi ng Mindanao, magdadala naman ito ng pag-ulan sa may Caraga at Davao Region (The cloud clusters seen over eastern Mindanao will bring rains over the Caraga and Davao regions),” he said.
Badrina said generally fair weather is expected in most parts of the country, with isolated thunderstorms still possible.
“Malaking bahagi naman ng atin bansa ang makakaranas ng mas maaliwalas na panahon bagamat posible pa rin ‘yung mga localized thunderstorms lalong-lalo na sa Visayas at Mindanao habang light rains naman sa may bahagi ng Luzon, dulot ‘yan ng northeast monsoon or ‘yung hanging amihan (A large part of the country will experience generally fair weather, although localized thunderstorms remain possible, especially in the Visayas and Mindanao, while light rains may affect parts of Luzon due to the northeast monsoon or amihan),” he said.
