Marcos: The only right reason to enter politics is to serve
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
There is only one right reason to enter politics—to serve, President Marcos said.
"I think you're well-guided so long as you enter politics for the right reason. And there's only one right reason: To serve," Marcos said when asked what piece of advice he can give to aspiring public servants.
"There's no other correct reason. It's a thankless job, that's for sure," Marcos further stated in his three-part podcast released this week.
While being a public servant is a demanding job, Marcos said it is "worth it."
He emphasized that the job becomes worth it when you are able to make a change even in one person's life.
"But it's worth it. You know, it's worth it. You know, when you see something change for the good that you made it, you made it happen, ikaw ang may – that changes your world," he said.
"There's nothing better than to help somebody outside of yourself, outside yourself, outside your family, your community, your country," he added.
"May nagawa ka. Nagbago yung buhay ng tao (You were able to do something. Someone's life changed). Can you imagine? Binago mo yung buhay ng tao (You were able to change someone else's life). What a privilege to be able to do that?" he further said.
As a president, Marcos said he wants that the reforms he was able to implement during his term would remain even after his presidency.
"My hope and the reason of the structural change is important is because kahit wala na ako rito, sana yung mga pagbabago ng nasimulan namin o na tumatakbo na, matuloy tuloy na para hindi na matanggal (even when I am no longer here, my hope is that the reforms that we have started and are now being implemented remain and will not be removed)," Marcos said in his podcast.
"Do it in such a way that it will continue, it will even get better, especially if we choose our presidents well," he stressed.
In his recent podcast, Marcos was being interviewed by three students from different universities in the country— Agripino John Patrick Ga-an of the West Visayas State University, Janine Lagbawan of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), and Kathleen Anne Millonte of the University of the East (UE) Manila.
