8 dead as vehicle enroute to cemetery plunges into vacant lot in Negros Oriental

BACOLOD CITY - Eight persons were killed and four others were injured after a Suzuki Easyride 4x4 vehicle plunged into a rocky vacant lot on their way to a cemetery in Sitio Tumampon, Barangay Tiguib, Ayungon, Negros Oriental on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Police Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental police, said the victims who were relatives were supposed to attend a death anniversary service when the vehicle driven by a 56-year-old man allegedly experienced a sudden brake failure.
He lost control of the vehicle while descending a steep downhill slope.
The vehicle rolled over the lot.
Despite efforts to stop the vehicle, the driver, who survived, claimed that the brakes allegedly failed to function.
Six persons were declared dead in a hospital and two others later passed away in a hospital, according to Polinar.
The four injured, including two minors, are recuperating in a hospital.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
