CEBU CITY – Used clothing locally known as “ukay-ukay” was seized from a warehouse in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 11.
A 28-year-old female administrative staff of the warehouse was arrested during the entrapment operation.
A poseur-buyer bought two bundles of ukay-ukay worth P11,000 before the arrest and confiscation were made.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Mandaue City Field Unit conducted the operation following reports of illegal trading of second-hand clothing in the warehouse.
Seized bundles of used clothing were valued at P364,000.
Police said charges for violation of Republic Act 4653 will be filed against the warehouse worker.
The law prohibits the commercial importation of used clothing and rags to protect public health and national dignity. Violation of the law is punishable by fines and imprisonment.
