Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency destroyed marijuana worth P57 million during operations from December 9 to 12 in Barangays Danac and Licungan in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur.
Police Brig. Gen. Dindo R. Reyes, Police Regional Office-1 chief, said they uprooted a total of 283,400 fully grown marijuana plants and 8,000 seedlings from 57 marijuana plantations with a combined area of 64,576-square meters.
Reyes lauded operating units and stressed that these efforts demonstrate their firm stance against illegal drugs.
“This P57 million worth of destruction is a huge victory for the safety of Region 1,” Reyes said.
“We have eliminated a major source of illegal wealth, and we will continue to pursue all remaining plantations and their cultivators until this destructive trade is completely eradicated.”
