Mayor Raisa Treñas welcomes cases vs Iloilo City village execs

ILOILO CITY – Mayor Raisa Treñas has welcomed the decision of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to file administrative complaints against 12 barangay officials and two Iloilo City Hall employees for allegedly deducting the cash assistance of DSWD beneficiaries.
“We will allow the legal process to take its course, and we stand ready to cooperate and provide assistance if needed,” said Treñas in a statement released on Friday evening, Dec. 12.
She issued the statement more than a day after DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian personally filed the cases before the Office of the Ombudsman in Manila on Thursday morning, Dec. 11.
The mayor initially did not issue a statement, but had a closed-door meeting with several barangay officials right after the cases were filed.
The 12 barangay officials and two Iloilo City Hall employees were accused of forcibly taking P8,000 from the P10,000 cash aid to beneficiaries of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) during on-site payouts last Nov. 7, Nov. 11 and Nov. 12.
They are facing cases for violating Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, grave misconduct, and abuse of authority.
Trenas said the Ombudsman is an avenue for the accused to clear their names.
The 12 barangay officials are publicly known to be supporters of the incumbent mayor and her father, former Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Charged were Barangay Captains Rizaline Delmo of Quintin Salas, Jaro; Amadeo Sultan of Simon Ledesma, Jaro; Gina Elauria of Taytay Zone II, Jaro; Visamin Cañal of Quezon, Arevalo; and Remedio Bedia of Lanit, Jaro;
Barangay Kagawads (Councilors) Victoria Ruel of Quintin Salas, Jaro; JingJing Pineda of Taytay Zone II, Jaro; Huntado of Lanit, Jaro; Gonzales Lanit, Jaro; two unnamed from Simon Ledesma, Jaro; and one from Quezon.
The Iloilo City Hall employees were Jobert Lim and Janicol Dizon.
