BANGKOK — Judoka Chino Sy-Tacontian defeated Indonesian Gede Ganding via ippon in the men’s 100kg final just as skateboarders Mazel Alegado and Jericho Francisco Jr. delivered a double victory in the extreme skateboard men’s and women’s park events in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Sy-Tacontian countered Ganding’s initial attempt for a throw and then found an opening to maneuver for an arm pindown to end the match.
Alegado, on the other hand, impressed with the daredevil tricks on the skateboard to garner 79.72 points, followed by compatriot Elizabeth Amador who finished with 72.03 points for a 1-2 finish for the Philippines.
Francisco, on the other hand, dominated the leaderboard with an impressive 90.68 points.
Back in judo, John Viron Ferrer settled for a silver in the men’s -81kg class.
Maxine Bautista also bagged a silver in the women’s figure skating event after scoring 129.33 points while Patrick Coo also claimed two bronze medals in the men’s BMX racing and time trial.
“It’s the track,” said the 23-year-old Coo, who also got third place on the podium in the time trial the other night. “Me and Danny [Caluag] and all the rest didn’t get enough time to train on the track."
