College of St. Benilde star Allen Liwag copped his second straight Most Valuable Award after a stellar season that was only cut short in the semis of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
In an awarding ceremony held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 13, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the 24-year-old Liwag, who is in Thailand as a reserve for Gilas Pilipinas, was named as the best individual performer of Season 101 after averaging 15.71 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 block per contest.
Liwag was also included in the Mythical Team, alongside Letran’s Kevin Santos and Titing Manalili, San Beda’s Janti Miller and San Sebastian’s Jhuniel Dela Rama.
He topped it all with a selection to the All-Defensive squad.
His latest accolade cemented Liwag’s name in the Benilde program as he became its first-ever player to bag the MVP award for two consecutive seasons.
Liwag became the fourth player to be named as MVP after Sunday Salvacion (2002), Jay Sagad (2005), and Will Gozum (2022).
The Taft-based squad concluded its elimination with a 9-4 slate at second spot in Group B before it survived Mapua in the quarterfinals. They, however, succumbed to San Beda in the semis rubber match.
The Blazers bowed earlier to Perpetual, the Sportsmanship Award winner, in their battle-for-third showdown, 75-87.
Meanwhile, Manalili clinched the Rookie of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards after listing 14.087 points, 5.15 rebounds, and 8.92 assists and 5.15 rebounds per game.
Arellano playmaker Renzo Abiera, on the other hand, snared the Most Improved Player honor.
