Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso formally received the transfer of the Jones Bridge Light Show Project by the Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) to the city government on Friday night, Dec. 12, as he promised the creation of more attractions and events in Manila that will surely bring delight to the public.
The turnover ceremony was attended by FFCCCII President Victor Lim and Vice Mayor Chi Atienza.
The light and show project is part of the ongoing revitalization of the Pasig River under the “Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli” (Revive Pasig) or PBBM Project, a flagship program of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.’s administration aimed at bringing new life to one of Metro Manila’s iconic waterways.
First launched in June, the colorful display highlights the bridge’s architectural beauty and historical significance, transforming it into a vibrant cultural landmark every weekend.
Now under the the city's operation, Domagoso promised Lim and the FFCCCII that the city government will take care of the project and further expand it to increase the number of people visiting and investing in the city.
According to him, boosting the city's economy will ensure that more businessmen will invest in Manila, which will result in more jobs available for Manileños.
In November, Domagoso said of the 55,924 registered businesses in Manila, only 1,390 have retired so far this year, reflecting a 2.8 percent retirement rate.
Meanwhile, new registrations have reached 7,265, equivalent to a 12.99 percent registration rate. This results in a net business growth rate of 10.51 percent, which he described as a strong signal of Manila’s resilient economic environment.
The local chief executive attributed the data to reforms implemented by his administration since July of 2025, which include the full reactivation of the electronic Business One Stop Shop (eBOSS), the streamlining of zoning requirements from 25 steps to seven, and the reduction of zoning appeals from 15 steps to five.
"These measures, combined with stricter revenue enforcement, boosted the city’s collection efficiency from 61 percent in the first half of the year to 81 percent from July to September," Domagoso explained.
On alert 24/7
The mayor also assured the public of their safety in the Capital City, especially during the Yuletide season.
"Yung ating Manila Police District (MPD), whether may event or wala, consistent na laging gising yang mga yan kaya rest assured na prepared ang lahat ng law enforcement agencies ng Manila to repsond to the influx of people during the holiday season (Our Manila Police District is consistently on alert and ready whether there is an event or not, so rest assured that all law enforcement agencies in Manila are prepared to respond to the influx of people during the holiday season)," Domagoso noted.
He had previously announced a 9.2 percent increase in the crime solution efficiency rate of the MPD during the first 100 days of his current term where he credited the improvement to intensified law enforcement efforts and the administration’s focus on public order, safety, and cleanliness.
This improvement is also a part of his administration's goal of creating a government that prioritizes visible, on-the-ground action.
He cited initiatives that included clearing public roads, installing lighting, and cracking down on petty crimes.
These initiatives resulted in the strengthening of the public's trust, particularly residents and investors, that Manila is a safe and orderly city to invest in.
