Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., acting chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), vowed to initiate appropriate criminal and administrative action against police officials implicated in the recent robbery of P14 million in Porac, Pampanga.
At least five policemen involved in the incident were relieved from their posts and will be slapped with criminal charges.
“We will not allow these few bad eggs to undermine the integrity and sacrifices of almost all our hard-working personnel, and tarnish the image of the entire organization,” said Nartatez.
“These people, if proven guilty in the ongoing investigation, do not deserve to be in the PNP, they deserve stay in jail,” he added.
Footage from CCTV showed that five armed men, who turned out to be police officers, raided a house in Barangay Santa Cruz on the evening of Nov. 25, holding the residents at gunpoint and forcing them inside a comfort room before fleeing with millions of pesos in cash.
Nartatez stressed that such behavior by police officers is unacceptable and will not be tolerated as he emphasized that the PNP is serious about holding rogue officers accountable.
In his first three months as the Nartatez said a total of 1,339 administrative cases involving 2,308 personnel were already resolved: 428 involved personnel were dismissed from service, 71 were demoted, and 448 were suspended while others received various administrative penalties.
Nartatez warned members of the police force that any misconduct within the ranks will face the full weight of the law.
“I hope this will serve as a warning to all our personnel not to do something that will compromise the trust and confidence of the people to their police,” he said.
