Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro welcomed Chinese Ambassador-designate Jing Quan, who arrived in Manila over the weekend.
The DFA chief welcomed Jing in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“We discussed (Philippine)-(China) ties and our shared interest in dialogue, stability, and expanded cooperation in trade and people-to-people exchanges,” she wrote.
In a post on Facebook, the Chinese Embassy in Manila said that Jing paid a courtesy call on Lazaro on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
He also presented an open copy of credentials to the Philippine Assistant Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Director-General of Protocol Ariel Rodelas Peñaranda last Dec. 9.
The new Chinese ambassador-designated succeeds Ambassador Huang Xilian, who was in the Philippines for six years, spanning the final years of the Duterte administration and the first half of the Marcos administration.
The Chinese Embassy in Manila has yet to release Jing’s full background, but foreign media reports he is considered a senior diplomat in China’s foreign relations.
