SM Supermalls, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), celebrated a milestone as a walk-in at its Tuguegarao job fair became the 30,000th on-the-spot hire under the nationwide employment program.
Rachelle Navalta, the latest beneficiary, was immediately hired as a service crew member at McDonald’s.
“Hindi po ako makapaniwala… nag-try lang po akong mag-apply dito sa job fair dito sa SM. Hindi ko po akalain na hired on the spot ako (I can’t believe it. I just tried to apply at the job fair here in SM. I never expected to be hired on the spot),” Navalta said.
She encouraged fellow job seekers to seize available opportunities, noting that job fairs can open doors to meaningful employment.
Her achievement highlights the growing impact of the SM–DOLE Job Fair Program, which has held more than 370 job fairs nationwide since November 2023.
The initiative has assisted over 220,000 job seekers and produced more than 30,000 on-the-spot hires.
SM Supermalls, together with DOLE and partner agencies, formally opens its job fair initiative to widen employment opportunities for Filipinos.
SM Supermalls President Steven Tan described the program as a bridge “connecting dreams with possibilities,” reaffirming SM’s commitment to providing platforms that empower, connect, and uplift the Filipino workforce.
SM Supermalls Executive Vice President for Marketing Joaquin San Agustin also acknowledged the government’s long-standing efforts in shaping the nation’s workforce, saying their shared mission is to open doors that lead to growth, dignity, and hope for every Filipino.
SM’s malls have evolved beyond retail centers into community hubs.
They are transforming job fairs into gateways to better lives by connecting companies and job seekers in accessible venues, SM Supermalls Assistant Vice President for Job Fairs and MSMEs Royston A. Cabunag said.
With the partnership continuing to expand, SM Supermalls plans to sustain the rollout of job fairs in key regions, turning its malls into opportunity centers where applicants can meet employers, receive guidance, and often secure a job in a single day.
