Taguig, Muntinlupa among top 10 Highly Urbanized Cities with highest per capita GDP
Taguig and Muntinlupa landed in the top 10 economies with the highest per capita GDP (gross domestic product) in 2024.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) made the announcement of the special release highlighting “the economic performance of all 82 provinces and 33 Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) in the country in terms of the per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”
GDP “measures the value of goods and services produced within an economy's borders during a given period,” according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The PSA said the 2024 per capita GDP was derived “by dividing the GDP of the province or HUC by its total population based on the results of the 2024 Census of Population (2024 POPCEN).”
Taguig placed eighth with a per capita GDP of P501,732 while Muntinlupa placed ninth with P494,566.
“Ayon sa Philippine Statistics Authority, kabilang ang Muntinlupa sa mga economies na may per capita GDP na mas mataas kaysa national average ngayong 2024. Isang malaking karangalan ito na nagpapakita ng dedikasyon nating mga Muntinlupeño, lakas ng lokal na negosyo, at matatag na pamumuno ni Mayor Ruffy Biazon na patuloy na nagtutulak sa ating lungsod tungo sa inclusive growth (According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, Muntinlupa is among the economies with a per capita GDP higher than the national average by 2024. This is a great honor that demonstrates the dedication of our Muntinlupeños, the strength of local businesses, and the strong leadership of Mayor Ruffy Biazon who continues to push our city towards inclusive growth),” the Muntinlupa City government announced.
Makati recorded the highest per capita GDP in 2024 with P3.88 million, followed by Pasay, Mandaluyong, San Juan and Pasig.
Baguio ranked 10th and is the only city outside Metro Manila that placed in the top 10.
