NU's 125th anniversary shines bright at the MOA Sky Amphitheater
When National University (NU) decided to celebrate its 125th anniversary—sharing that same milestone in 2025 with the Manila Bulletin—it took over the Mall of Asia Sky and transformed the outdoor rooftop into a sea of navy blue and gold as far as the eye could see. Representing integrity, compassion, resilience, innovation, and patriotism, the NU colors are now part of a tradition of dynamic growth and expansion.

Fourteen campus locations spread across the country now serve some 83,000 students enrolled at NU. It’s unprecedented growth, paired with a rising reputation for academic and sports excellence. Its close association with the SM Group and SM Supermalls made the MOA Sky Amphitheater an ideal venue choice, and it was encouraging to see how much effort went into ensuring that all campuses were represented as the program unfolded that evening.
Themed “Legacy and Harmony,” the 125th anniversary celebration was led by NU chairman Hans T. Sy, with the university’s president, Renato H. Ermita, urging the audience to take great pride in NU as an academic institution and to support the varsity teams still competing in the late stages of the ongoing UAAP tournaments across various sports. There truly was much to celebrate that cool evening—and if I hadn’t known better, I could have sworn the sky itself was turning navy blue and gold as night descended.
