IPs affected by Iloilo mega dam receive P6.9-M livelihood assistance

A P6.9-million livelihood check was turned over by NIA-6 to DOLE-6 for indigenous peoples (IPs) families impacted by the Iloilo mega dam project. (NIA/JRMP-II)
ILOILO CITY – A new batch of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) are recipients of a livelihood program that aims to restore their previous income from the construction of the Iloilo mega dam.
The National Irrigation Administration-6 and the Department of Labor and Employment-6 teamed up to give a P6.9-million livelihood assistance to 175 IP families in the mountain areas of Calinog town.
Each of the IP families affected by the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose-Stage II (JRMP-II) will get P40,000 under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program.
A total of 89 IP families will be engaged in goat production; 68 in muscovy duck production, and 18 in mallard duck production.
The check was turned over recently to NIA-6 Regional Manager Jonel Borres by DOLE-6 Regional Director Sixto Rodriguez Jr.
Also present during the event were IDD OIC/ Watershed Management Section Chief Steve Cordero and Technical Assistant for Livelihood Cecilia Ang.
Over the years, the IP families living near the JRMP-II project have availed around P19-million worth of livelihood assistance from DOLE-6 with the Project Management Office (PMO) facilitating.
