Filipino singer and contestant No. 59 Gwyn Dorado advanced to the top 10 on Korean channel JTBC’s singing competition TV show “Sing Again 4.”

During episode 9 of “Sing Again 4” that aired on Dec. 9, Dorado, 20, performed “Rebirth,” a song by singer and judge Yoon Jong-shin, and drew praises.

“Sing Again 4” is a music audition TV show that gives singers a second chance to sing again on stage. The show started with 81 contestants.

This season’s judges are Lim Jae-beom, Yoon Jong-shin, Baek Ji-young, Kim Eana, Kyuhyun of Super Junior, Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation, Lee Hae-ri and Code Kunst.

In the fourth round of competition, the top 16 contestants were placed in four groups with each group having four contestants. The top two in each group will advance to the top 10.

Dorado was placed in a group with contestants Sanha (No. 23), Jan Seong-il (No. 44), and Lee Oh-wook (No. 65)

"I chose judge Yoon Jong-shin's ‘Rebirth.’ In the previous rounds, I only performed ballads, so I wanted to show a new side of myself in this round. I put a lot of thought into my song selection. I recently listened to 'Rebirth,' and it's such a lovely, heart-fluttering song,” said Dorado.

In the end, Dorado got the votes from all the judges and advanced to the top 10 along with Lee Oh-wook.

Judges again praised Dorado’s performance.

Lee Hae-ri commented, "It's shocking. The vocal impact is like being hit in the back of the head with a bat. You really put together all the quality, sound, dynamics, and skills a vocalist can produce, and even said it was all yours. I was so amazed."

OST singer Baek Ji-young said, "But first of all, the breathing itself was so stable, and I thought that was really amazing. This is what true talent is."

“But it was so good and what I really want to say is, I wish you would sing again. So I said it was such a great performance that I wanted to ask for an encore,” said Kyuhyun.

Yoon Jong-shin, who wrote and sang "Rebirth," said, “I composed it in Guui-dong, Gwangjin [in Seoul]. But it seems like it was written in New York. I was impressed by No. 59's vocal ability. I'm more attached to the lyrics than the melody. Thank you for singing those lyrics so well."

Sanha and Han Seong-il will compete with the other four eliminated contestants for a consolation round. Out of the six eliminated contestants, the judges will choose two who will fill the remaining slots in the top 10.

The eight contestants who advanced to the top 10 round are Kyuri (No. 18), Lee Sangwoong (No. 19), sEODo (No. 26), Seohee (No. 27), Choi Jeong-cheol (No. 28) and Kim Jae-min (No. 37), Gwyn Dorado (No. 59), and Lee Oh-wook (No. 65).

Episode 9 of “Sing Again 4” on Dec. 9 drew the show’s highest rating to date at 3.916 percent nationwide in South Korea. In the Seoul metropolitan area, the show got a rating of 4.066 percent.
