DAVAO CITY – The 21st Davao City Council approved during a special session on Tuesday, Dec. 9, the allocation of P4 million in aid for provinces affected by typhoon ‘’Uwan.’’
Under four separate ordinances, the provinces of Kalinga, Albay, Pangasinan, and Northern Samar will each receive P1 million in financial assistance.
Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, chairman of the Committee on Finance, stated that these areas declared a state of calamity following the effects of Uwan in November.
These measures authorize acting Mayor Sebastian Duterte’s office to draw funds from the 30 percent Quick Response Fund sourced from the city’s five percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund for calendar year 2025.
Earlier this month, the council also approved P5.9 million in assistance for local government units affected by typhoon ‘’Tino,’’ which caused extensive damage to one province, five cities, and eight municipalities.
Dayanghirang, who authored the ordinances, authorized Mayor Duterte to utilize a portion of the P201.375-million DRRM-Quick Response Fund.
The city council allowed the city government to draw from the 30 percent QRF within its five percent DRRMF for 2025 to provide financial assistance to areas under a state of calamity due to Tino.
Under these measures, Davao City will provide P1 million to the Province of Dinagat Islands; P500,000 each to the cities of Cebu, Danao, Bago, La Carlota, and Canlaon; and P300,000 to the municipalities of Compostela and Balamban in Cebu, as well as La Castellana and Pototan in Iloilo province.
In all, the ordinances authorized a total of P4.7 million in calamity assistance.
