Rapu-Rapu Minerals, Inc. (RRMI) and Rapu-Rapu Processing, Inc. (RRPI) have formally turned over lands, buildings, facilities, and equipment to the Local Government of Rapu-Rapu, Albay on December 4, 2025, following the completion of the companies’ environmental rehabilitation works at the Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic Project site.
The turnover was finalized after the Mines and Geosciences Bureau issued the Certificate of Final Relinquishment on August 20, 2025, confirming that RRMI and RRPI had satisfied all requirements for mine closure and were authorized to transfer the assets back to the host communities.
Under the agreement, the companies are donating all remaining project-area assets to the municipal government. They will also provide Php 6,552,000, representing the equivalent budget for two years of site management and maintenance, to ensure the proper care and use of the facilities after the turnover.
Local officials expressed appreciation for the formal turnover, noting that several of the existing site buildings are being considered for conversion into a new senior high school. The municipality is also evaluating the installation of solar panel systems within the site to help improve the island’s electricity supply and enhance energy resilience, as the island has long lacked a reliable power grid.
RRMI and RRPI emphasized that the turnover reflects their commitment to responsible mine closure, compliance with government regulations, and support for long-term community development. National government agencies likewise recognized the issuance of the relinquishment certificate as an important step in ensuring transparency and accountability within the mining sector.
The MOA signing marks the conclusion of Rapu-Rapu’s mining operations and the beginning of new opportunities for the municipality. With the assets now under local stewardship, the community is positioned to pursue sustainable development programs, strengthen public services, and support inclusive economic growth.
