DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Eagle Foundation has launched a series of Christmas-related activities as part of its awareness and fundraising drive to support its advocacy work for the conservation of the critically-endangered Philippine Eagles.
“Your Gifts Save Us: A Green Christmas at the Philippine Eagle Center” is a month-long celebration that blends the spirit of Christmas with environmental stewardship, creativity, and community engagement, the PEF said.
The PEF called on the public to visit the Philippine Eagle Center (PEC) here and join the conservation-inspired Christmas activities suited for families, learners, volunteers, and partners.
The event kicked off with the Community Mosaic Painting with artist Bing Famoso, which featured Philippine Eagle chick Riley.
During the event, a high-resolution Philippine Eagle portrait was divided into 40 individual tiles, each painted by participants.
“Every painted tile reflects the idea of AgiLakbay, which is a collective journey of creativity and purpose that symbolizes how individual contributions strengthen the larger conservation movement,” the PEF said.
Several activities will also be held at the PEC such as the “Open Classroom Project: Christmas Edition” on Dec. 13, a hands-on, child-centered forest and wildlife learning experience that teaches children aged eight to 13 about the vital role of trees in sustaining forests and protecting the Philippine Eagle.
On Dec. 14, the PEF will gather volunteers for “Pag-asa Volunteers’ Day,” named after the late first captive-bred Philippine Eagle hatched at the PEC.
According to PEF, volunteers’ day is a special appreciation celebration recognizing active and long-serving volunteers through storytelling, recognition rites, fun engagement activities, and a fellowship lunch.
The PEF has established a donation kiosk at the PEC known as “Socks for Species” where visitors can donate in themed boxes for mammals, birds, and reptiles. Proceeds support animal care and enrichment.
Locally-handmade products and other souvenir items are also available at the weekend bazaar in all December weekends.
The bazaar showcases eco-friendly, conservation-themed products as booth rental proceeds will be given to the PEF to support its wildlife conservation programs.
