Nine fishermen were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after their motorbanca sank off Anini-y, Antique, on Monday, Dec. 8, due to bad weather.
The fishermen were conducting fishing activities onboard fishing banca “KIMSYVEL” off the coast of Western Visayas when it was suddenly hit by big waves, causing it to sink.
A radio distress call was received by the Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV), which immediately dispatched fast patrol boat BRP Kalanggaman (FPB-2404) for search and rescue operations.
BRP Kalanggaman spotted the fishermen approximately 19 nautical miles southwest of Nogas Island in Anini-y and brought them to safety.
“All nine fishermen aboard the distressed motorbanca were safely located and rescued by the responding Coast Guard personnel,” the PCG said.

The fishermen were later brought to Coast Guard Station Iloilo where medical personnel checked their vital signs and provided first aid. All were declared in stable condition.
Authorities said the rescued crew have since been turned over to the motorbanca owner for documentation and coordination.
