The National University - Nazareth School issued an apology after it received criticisms following the boys volleyball team's post-game celebration in their do-or-die semifinal win over University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 88 high school tournament last Monday, Dec. 8.
After carving out a 25–22, 25–19, 23–25, 26–24 triumph over the Junior Golden Spikers, the Bullpups were seen in a photo mocking the opposing team at the Blue Eagles Gym.
“NU Nazareth School sincerely apologizes for the behavior shown by some of our high school volleyball players after the recent UAAP match against UST,” the school said in a statement Tuesday, Dec. 9. "Those actions, however, were condemned by the school, noting the conduct was unacceptable and contradicts the values of respect, humility, and love that NU Nazareth teaches.”
The school said it already talked to the players and the coaches involved in the incident, and will implement corrective measures to prevent a similar incident in the future.
“We thank the UAAP community for holding us accountable to the standards we expect of ourselves. Your support remains deeply appreciated,” it concluded.
Several Bullpups players have expressed regret over their actions through posts on their social media stories.
Meanwhile, NUNS plunges into its sixth consecutive Finals appearance where it tangles with University of the East, which outlasted Far Eastern University in the semis, this Thursday, December 11, at the same venue.
