TACLOBAN CITY – The provincial government of Northern Samar (PGNS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Eastern Visayas Food Innovation Center (EVFIC), Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Region 8, and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) on Tuesday for the adaptation and promotion of Ready-to-Eat (RTE) Retortable Champorado Technology.
The introduction of the RTE champorado is the first disaster-response food product produced in Northern Samar.
It is a food product developed to enhance safety, extend shelf life, and improve market competitiveness.
The product also aims to support communities during emergencies and natural calamities, providing rapid, reliable, and locally produced nourishment when it is needed most.
The PGNS and DOST-8 have earlier signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the implementation of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Project.
The agreement serves as a foundational requirement for the technology transfer activities related to the adoption of the RTE Champorado Technology developed by EVFIC, EVSU, and DOST.
Through the agreement, the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (PEDIPO) will work closely with EVFIC, DOST, and EVSU to empower local producers by providing training, technical support, and access to advanced food processing technologies.
