According to the Malabon City Police Station (MCPS), the victim was attacked around 2 a.m. on Dec. 1, along Kagitingan Street, where he was struck with a baseball bat.
Sandoval said all forms of violence have no place in the city and should never be tolerated, emphasizing that such acts take lives and disrupt the peace of the community.
“Mahigpit kong kinokondena ang lahat ng uri ng karahasan. Hindi kailanman katanggap-tanggap ang anumang gawain na kumikitil ng buhay at sumisira sa kapayapaan ng ating komunidad (I strongly condemn all forms of violence. Any act that takes a life and destroys the peace of our community is never acceptable),” she said.
The mayor also expressed her condolences to the victim’s family and assured them of the city government’s support as they seek justice. She noted that the victim’s mother is an employee of the city government.
Sandoval further assured the public that authorities are working to ensure that all those responsible for the incident would be held fully accountable under the law.
“Tinitiyak ko sa lahat ng Malabueño na hindi natin papayagang manatiling malaya ang sinumang responsable sa krimeng ito. Makakaasa kayo na buong pwersa ng batas ang ating ihaharap upang matiyak na ang mga salarin ay mananagot hanggang sa pinakabuong saklaw ng ating batas (I assure all Malabueños that we will not allow anyone responsible for this crime to remain at large. You can expect that we will use the full force of the law to ensure that those behind this will be held accountable to the fullest extent),” Sandoval added.
She said the local government will continue extending assistance to the victim’s family and will strengthen efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Police said the victim sustained severe head injuries that resulted in brain swelling and internal bleeding before slipping into a coma while undergoing treatment at Tondo Medical Center.
He was pronounced dead on Friday, Dec. 5, after several days in a comatose state.
One suspect was arrested shortly after the incident while the other individuals believed to be involved are still being pursued.
The victim’s family filed a complaint with the Office of the City Prosecutor on Dec. 2. Authorities said the case is now under review and that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
The victim left behind a seven-month-old child and his partner.
Police said efforts to identify and locate the remaining suspects are ongoing.
