PEOPLE flock to the Lamrag Lantern Festival in Can-avid, Eastern Samar.
CAN-AVID, Eastern Samar – Despite being battered by several typhoons this year, Can-avid, Eastern Samar still pushed through with the Lamrag Giant Lantern Festival on Monday.
Now in its eighth year, the festival featured 13 giant lanterns made from recyclable materials such as plastic cups, spoons, and bottles at the Great Park Area.
Sebastian Pomarejos, municipal tourism officer, said the municipality’s 28 barangays combined to create at least five-foot-tall lanterns this year.
Winners of the month-long festival will receive P200,000 for first place, P150,000 for second place, and P100,000 for third place.
Non-winners will receive special and consolation prizes.
Mayor Alicia Teves, in a media interview, said the festival's ongoing success demonstrates unity across all barangays.
She invited the public to view the displays until January. She added that there are also food stands available for visitors.
