Barangay Ginebra and Meralco look to boost their respective playoff bids when they take on their separate rivals in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Coming from a long break due to the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, the Kings (3-4) try to shake off the rust as they go for two in a row against the Blackwater Bossing (1-7) in their 7:30 p.m. showpiece.
Opening the double-header is a 5:15 p.m. collision between the Bolts (3-4) and the Terrafirma Dyip (1-7) with the former aiming to snap its two-game slide.
A win from either Meralco and Ginebra would break the two-way tie between the two teams sitting at the seventh and eighth spots, respectively.
They must also succeed in their remaining games to sneak into the playoff race with the Top 4 finishers earning twice-to-beat bonuses.
Among the leaders are Rain or Shine (7-2), San Miguel (6-2), Converge (6-3), and Magnolia (6-3).
Fresh off their Gilas Pilipinas stints, Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, and RJ Abarrientos lead the Kings alongside Troy Rosario, Stephen Holt, and Jeremiah Grey.
Rosario and Holt gave solid contributions in their previous contest, conniving in crunch time to spoil Ricci Rivero’s 28-point eruption to steer Ginebra past Phoenix, 102-93, last Nov. 16
On the other hand, Blackwater hopes to end its string of defeats despite the absence of its key players in Dalph Panopio and Abu Tratter, who answered the Gilas callup for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
With Panopio and Tratter donning the tricolors, Sedrick Barefield and Christian David banner the Bossing who are still figuring out how to stop the bleeding of a seven-game slide.
Meanwhile, Meralco attempts to rediscover its winning ways over the slumping Terrafirma side which is ailing from six straight losses.
Chris Newsome, Bong Quinto, Cliff Hodge, CJ Cansino, and Chris Banchero take charge for the Bolts who are juggling their games between the PBA and the East Asia Super League (EASL).
Jerrick Ahanmisi takes the driver's seat of the Dyip with young guns Paolo Hernandez, Mark Sangalang, Brent Paraiso, Mark Nonoy, and John Bravo spearheading the supporting cast.
