It’s an early Christmas gift for beneficiaries of mass housing in Pasig City after the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) awarded P21 million that will be used for the acquisition of the land they have been occupying for years.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon P. Aliling said the land acquisition is under the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) Enhanced Community Mortgage Program (ECMP), one of the modalities under the mass housing program of the Marcos administration.
“The payment for the landowner will pave the way for the community’s transition to legitimate and secure land ownership,” said Aliling, referring to the residents of the Centennial Sunrise.
Centennial Sunrise Homeowners Association is composed of 175 members. It is one of the five ECMP communities that received their Certificate of Lot Award from President Marcos during the National Housing Expo on Oct. 23 in Pasay City.
“This is in line with the instruction of the President for every Filipino family to have a decent home. We want every Filipino family to feel the assurance and dignity that come with owning the land they live on,” he added.
Aside from the money for land acquisition, he said the SHFC also turned over a grant worth over P84,000 to cover the payment for the documentary stamp tax on mortgage.
“This is part of the transformative approach of the ECMP, wherein it focuses not only on land acquisition but also other benefits that will help improve the lives of its beneficiaries,” said Aliling.
SHFC president and chief executive officer Federico Laxa handed over the checks during a ceremony with the officers and members of the Centennial Sunrise Homeowners Association.
Alongside the turnover of checks, Deputy Administrator Lee Robert Britanico of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS RO) announced that qualified members of Centennial Sunrise HOA can avail of the Enhanced Lifeline Program (ELP).
The ELP is a government-supported initiative that provides discounted water rates to eligible low-income consumers. The assistance follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed by SHFC and MWSS on Dec. 5.
