Key flood control projects, which were recently put on hold due to legal issues involving their contractors, are moving forward under replacement construction companies to prevent delays in vital infrastructure, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Tuesday, Dec. 9,.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon cited the terminated Discayas contracts, noting that replacement contractors have already taken over to keep work on schedule.
“Talagang terminate na natin yan. Pero kahit na yung mga terminate natin, nag-award na tayo ng mga panibago (We really terminated them. But even those we terminated, we have already awarded to new contractors),” Dizon said, stressing that uninterrupted construction is vital for the economy and the public.
Reports that some district engineering offices have been hesitant to approve payrolls following recent construction-related arrests in MIMAROPA were addressed.
The department chief assured personnel that anyone following proper procedures “will not face penalties.”
Contractors were reminded that payments will only be made for work properly executed, with Dizon urging full compliance with regulations to prevent irregularities that led to previous contract terminations.
“Basta maayos ang gawa, maayos ang trabaho. Wala kayong dapat ikatakot. Mababayaran kayo ng tama (As long as the work is done properly, the job is properly executed. You have nothing to fear. You will be paid correctly),” he added.
Looking ahead, Dizon said public works spending is projected to increase in 2026, with DPWH intensifying monitoring to ensure project quality, regulatory compliance, and timely completion.
