Fans couldn't help but gush over the recent episode of "Variety's: Actors on Actors" interview featuring the Sexiest Man Alive, Jonathan Bailey (37), and Superman David Corenswet (32).
Being among the most talked about actors of this year, David and Jonathan open up about their early careers in theater and how they prepared for their roles as Prince Fiyero and Clark Kent.
"Being in a film like this, you get these extraordinary experts who are there to give you technique and time. For me, it’s about confidence. Those eight days of doing “Dancing Through Life” were some of the most extraordinary and toughest days I’ve had on a film set. Jon Chu had a baby, so we did one day without a director. You have to train that hard. There will be variables on the day. You might not sleep. You might have a cold. The director might have a baby. It’s so satisfying to really commit fully," Jonathan shared.
Sharing both personal trainers for the role, David said it was not an easy process because he had to put on 40 pounds.
"I was what one of my high school crushes very unaffectionately described as a string bean. Some people are Popeye, and some people are Olive Oyl. And I was Olive Oyl. So yeah, I put on 40 pounds with Paolo," David shared.
With their undeniable on-screen charm, various TikTok edits and fan cams were made, calling for the two to be put in a movie together.
As they complimented each other’s performances, Jonathan noted another thing their films have in common.
"We both kiss levitating!" Jonathan pointed out.
David then said that it is harder to kiss someone in the air when they are carrying you.
"Anyway, Sexiest Man Alive, you are carried by Cynthia. She’s levitating you. Every man out there would think there’s no way you can look masculine and powerful and in control when you’re being levitated by a woman. And you, in that moment when she’s lifting you by your fucking massive arms, maintained your masculinity. Well done, mate. Because it’s a lot easier when you’re carrying the girl," David said.
Jonathan responded that if he were carried by his co-stars, Cynthia and Ariana, he would be happy to do so. The "Wicked" actor also gave his compliments to David and Rachel's kissing scene at the end of Superman.
But Davidi explained that he had to fight to keep the chuckle in the film because director James Gunn wasn't so keen on it.
"He came up to me and said, 'It’s not working. It needs to be solemn," Corenswet recalled. "I was like, 'No! The whole point is, "I f--king know that you love me." Credit to James. He was right on 90 percent of everything, but on that one, he saw that chuckle was a very truthful thing," David explained.
Before ending the interview, David once again teased Jonathan about being the Sexiest Man Alive.
